The Refit List
Or….. The jobs list.
The list of jobs to do is, like most refit lists – long…..
Well perhaps not too bad, I guess. A number of the jobs are the result of neglected maintenance, and some are the result of updating systems. I will try to keep this list up to date with progress and
-
- Rewire DC systems –
-
- All cabin wiring removed and replaced as appropriate.
Un-fused / un-switched battery connections removed (fresh water pump direct from sbd engine start battery)DoneReplace house batteries (see post)Done
-
- Overhaul the headlining throughout the boat
-
- It’s somewhat saggy and much of the foam has deteriorated. This will be the subject of a separate post.
-
Change lights to LED.Complete-
- Use standard GU4 sized LED fittings (additional post)
-
- Replace nav instruments, log, depth, wind, plotter, radar etc.
-
- Instruments are an eclectic mix of old Raymarine, and Navionics kit. Old radar, obsolete greyscale chart plotter, etc. Very little works at all, and none of it properly.
-
- Replace autopilot. The current one, while working, is a venerable Autohelm 2000 from Noah’s day.
- Reconnect port fresh water tank and replace the water pump.
- Replace starboard internal manual bilge pump handle.
- Replace refrigerator cooling core
-
- This was originally a thermo-electric cooling system. Not terribly efficient and totally inadequate for decent cruising. The system will be replaced by a Danfoss evaporator plate and compressor/condenser system.
-
- Redesign Galley to provide a better sink – the current solution is tiny.
- Rewire DC systems –
-
- Fit hot water system
- Originally (or at some time in the past) hot water was supplied by a gas instant water heater with internal venting mounted in the head. These are not only now illegal, but down right dangerous. Fortunately this had been removed by the previous owner, although no effort to fix the plumbing or replace the hot water system had been made. This will be replaced by a regular calorifier heated by a Eberspacher Hydronic diesel fired water heater.
- Fit heating (we are in the UK after all). The same Eberspacher Hydronic heater used for hot water will also be used to feed a set of blown air radiators for heating cabins and the saloon.
-
- Heating and hot water systems will be the subject of a separate post.
-
- Replace Mainsail – I believe the current one is original circa 1986 and is in poor shape, so about time.
- Fit hot water system
- Replace running rigging where required.
